A redwood sprout, cast in solid sterling silver. We have a beautiful redwood tree in our backyard, which gives my chickens shade during the summer, and keeps them dry from rain in the winter. Owls, hawks, ravens and crows use its branches too.
The tree sends up new shoots around the base every year, which need to be cut back regularly. This sprout has been transformed into solid silver through lost wax casting.
After casting, I formed the silver around into a ring, and soldered it closed before polishing.
